Programs

Senior Resources provides preliminary screening for many general state and/or federal benefits or support. These programs include:

  • Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders (CHCP)
    A state & federally funded program that offers home or community based services to Connecticut residents 65 years and older, as an alternative to nursing homes.
  • Energy Assistance
    Assistance paying heating bills is available to all lower-income Connecticut households, including those in which, one member of the household is at least 60 years old or disabled.
  • Food Stamps
    The Food Stamp program is operated by the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS). Benefits are provided in the form of an electronic benefits card (commonly known as an "EBT" card) that may be used to buy food items in most food stores.
  • Insurance
    Information on Medicare, Medicaid, Medigap, & Medicare Savings Programs.
  • Pharmaceutical Assistance
    Acquiring prescription drugs at an affordable price is a challenge for many senior adults. Click on the link for programs may be of assistance to individuals who qualify.
  • Property Tax Relief
    State law provides a property tax reduction program for Connecticut homeowners who are 65 or older, or totally disabled.
  • Reverse Mortgage for Seniors
    Reverse Annuity Mortgage (RAM) programs are loans which allow low-income elderly homeowners to use the equity in their homes to meet unexpected medical expenses, make home improvements or other expenses.
  • Rental Rebate
    Connecticut’s Tax Relief Program for renters and Homeowners allows for reimbursement of rental payments. Recipients must be 65 or older and reside in CT at least 1 year.
  • Supplemental Security Income
    Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provides monthly checks to to individuals who are disabled, blind, or 65 and older and who have never been employed or were not employed long enough to qualify for regular Social Security benefits.
